    General Checkup

Get an appointment with your regular physician for a general health assessment. Ensure that you are in good overall health before traveling.

During this visit, discuss your travel plans and ensure that you are in good health to handle the journey. Your doctor can assess your overall health, review any pre-existing medical conditions, and provide guidance on managing them while abroad.

    Eye Doctor

When preparing for international travel, visiting an eye doctor is an essential step. That’s especially true if you wear prescription glasses or contact lenses or have any eye-related issues.

If you have any corrective lenses, make sure you have a spare pair. Consider getting an updated prescription in case you need replacements during your travels. If you don’t have a current eye doctor before going overseas, try contacting B-Town Eyecare.

    Remember Vaccines

Check the recommended and required vaccinations for your destination. Some countries may require specific vaccinations to enter. Others may have health concerns that can be minimized through immunization.

Common travel vaccines include those for hepatitis A and B, typhoid, yellow fever, meningitis, and influenza.

    Go Through Your Medications

If you’re on any prescription medications, make sure you have an adequate supply for the duration of your trip. Additionally, check if any of your medications are restricted or prohibited in your destination country.

Keep all your essential medications and medical supplies in your carry-on luggage, especially for long flights. This ensures you have access to them throughout your journey and prevents any issues in case of checked baggage delays or loss.

Carry a doctor’s prescription for these medications. If possible, bring extra prescriptions. That will help protect you in case of loss or emergency.

    First Aid Options

When traveling overseas, having a well-equipped first aid kit is essential for handling minor health issues and injuries. Your first aid options can make a significant difference in providing immediate care until professional medical help is available.

Assemble a comprehensive first aid kit containing items like adhesive bandages for minor cuts and scrapes.

Sterile gauze pads and tape are useful for dressing larger wounds, while antiseptic wipes or alcohol pads can clean wounds before applying dressings. Including antiseptic cream or ointment can aid in treating minor cuts and burns and preventing infection.

Don’t forget to carry copies of essential medical records. This can help if you do end up in an emergency situation.
