Did you know that the median home price is over $400,000 nationally? Whether your home is above or below that mark, you want to get top dollar for it when you list it for sale. But what should you renovate before putting your home on the market?

Read on to learn what not to fix when selling a house!

    Table of Contents

    • 1. Cracks in Your Driveway
    • 2. Building Code Issues
    • 3. Significant Renovations
    • 4. Dated Appliances
    • 5. Old Windows
    • Know What Not to Fix When Selling a House

    1. Cracks in Your Driveway

You may think cracks in your driveway are an eyesore. Even so, it’s not worth the effort to recoat your driveway. A driveway with cracks won’t be a dealbreaker when selling a home.

Selling a house as is can save you from the hassle of trying to seal all of your driveway or sidewalk’s cracks. Just focus on keeping these areas swept, and make sure the landscaping around them looks good. Check out Lasvegashomesbyleslie.com for some of the most attractive homes available right now.

    2. Building Code Issues

Do you live in an older home? If your home is over 40 years old, there’s a good chance it won’t comply with current building codes. But don’t panic if you’re selling a house.

It’s not worth doing major electrical rewiring or changing the incline on a staircase to meet current standards. As a seller, you are not required to meet new standards anyway.

    3. Significant Renovations

You might want a better-looking kitchen as part of your house sellers checklist. But think twice before embarking on a major renovation. This is especially true if you’re on a tight timeline and unlikely to complete the renovation before listing.

Not all potential buyers will share your aesthetic sensibility. If you opt for granite countertops and Shaker-style cabinets, they might prefer a more minimalist look. It’s better to save your budget and time and not pursue a big remodeling project.

    4. Dated Appliances

Yes, stainless steel appliances look sleek and timeless. But if your home has white or black appliances that aren’t exactly modern, keep them anyway. It’s not worth spending thousands of dollars on new appliances.

Likewise, if your appliances are nearing the end of their usable life, don’t upgrade. The buyers may have appliances of their own that they would prefer to bring with them.

But if your refrigerator is really looking tired, you might feel like you need to do something since it’s so dominant in your kitchen. In these instances, opt for a used appliance. This will be far cheaper and provide the cosmetic upgrade you want.

    5. Old Windows

Broken window seals or stubborn handles may make your windows frustrating. But don’t address your windows before listing your home.

Windows are among the more costly features of a home to upgrade. You can trust that potential buyers will be more concerned with the views outside of them!

Know What Not to Fix When Selling a House

Wondering what not to fix when selling a house? Steer clear of replacing big-ticket items like windows or doing major renovations. And don’t worry about driveway cracks or dated appliances.
